Wind!

Okay, the wind here is SO annoying and relentless. We had planned on meeting a friend and her son at the lake today for a picnic and playdate. But, it was and is too windy, the kids might blow away. I'm only slightly exaggerating. It's so windy that it is an arm workout to keep the van on the road. The day was not wasted though as we headed to the friend's house for lunch and a playdate anyway. But seriously, how do people* get used to this wind?

*something funny to add...I was reading the pathetic excuse for a paper Lethbridge offers weekly and apparently people that live in Lethbridge are called Lethbians. HA! Lesbians with lisps!

Waiting Patiently...

When is Daddy coming home?????

Sunny Sunday

We had a really nice day yesterday. During Samara's first nap, Shawn stained part of the back deck and I got the main floor and upstairs windows cleaned. LOVE the feeling of having such a major job done...well, almost done. I still have to do the basement and the outside. Not sure what I'm going to do about the outside. I have heard there are sprays that attach to your hose that are supposedly streak free. Has anyone tried them? Any suggestions?

After lunch, we headed down to Henderson Lake for the annual Dragon Boat Festival. It was really cool, I've never seen the boats before or the racers in action. We found a shady spot under a big tree and Samara just ran back and forth to the water about a hundred times.

17 weeks

The baby is now 5.5 inches long and weighs about 5 ounces. Too bad that's not all the weight I've gained! This morning the scale showed 6 pounds.

I'm feeling good but I'm noticing I'm more sensitive to the heat. The other day after Samara and I played on the deck for awhile, I got dizzy and had to come in. It could be a long summer!

No other symptoms...unless I can blame trying to put the toaster in the fridge TWO days in a row on being pregnant.

Food cravings this week...those lime Tostitos with melted cheese, chocolate and licorice (possibly all at the same snack). Oh, and orange pop. I never drink pop so that one is completely out of left field.

It's funny that just last week I was complaining that I didn't really look pregnant. A lot can happen in a week!

Sleeping In

I wonder if I will ever be able to really enjoy when Samara sleeps in without worrying that she has stopped breathing at some point and that's the real reason she isn't up at her normal time. Moms, does that ever go away?

Finger Painting

Despite being a self professed clean freak, I really try not to let it get to me during the hours when Samara is up. I tidy after her as best as I can and then don't really go crazy until after she's in bed for the night. I want to do fun things with her EVEN if it makes a mess and kind of gives me an anxiety attack thinking of the possible disasters.

Which brings us to yesterday...it was a nice day out so we had some friends over for chocolate pudding finger painting! It's the perfect craft for toddlers...it introduces them to creating things with their hands and because they will inevitably eat anything, the chocolate pudding avoids potential paint eating. The kids had a blast and I spent all of Samara's afternoon nap hosing down the deck!

Kisses

I was laying in bed with Samara this morning while she was drinking her milk and she looked over at me and blew me a kiss.

Melt my heart.

Father's Day

I was trying to remember how we spent last Father's Day...I believe it was a family celebration in Banff. Or, it was supposed to be. When Samara ended up being colicky and "difficult", we quickly realized a road trip was just not going to happen for our little family until things got a bit easier. We planned to have everyone over on their way back home. Then one of the worst nights to date happened and we all had practically no sleep. So Mom and Bill came and rescued us. I think they held Samara while she slept (the only way she would sleep!) and we had a nap and then went for a run.

I'm pleased to say that a year later, things are much easier and we had a fantastic day. Samara slept until the late hour of 6:45am (sigh, sleeping in is a thing of the past) and we all cuddled and played in bed. I made Shawn blueberry waffles and then made our Father's Day calls to the papas in our lives. Samara took a nap and we got some things done around the house. When she woke, we had a nice lunch and then took off to the lake. We played in the sand, watched the water and played at the park. We came home and Samara and I had a nap while Shawn relaxed. Then we went for a nice long walk around our neighborhood and came home and had Chinese food and homemade rice pudding for dessert. Now we're listening to Shawn play guitar...I'm typing out this post and Samara is dancing. I know it's Father's Day but I'm talking about me...and how lucky I am to have this man as Samara's father. He is everything I could have imagined and more than I could have ever wished for. Samara's eyes light up when she hears him come home and truth be told, her first actual word was actually "dada" and NOT "mama" like I'd hoped. We love you Daddy!!!

And a special thanks to Dad, Bill and Papa Jim...you are fantastic fathers and we are truly fortunate to have you in our lives. Much love!

16 weeks

The baby is now the size of an avocado and will double in size in the next few weeks.

I'm not really looking that pregnant yet. I'm surprised, I thought I would be showing earlier than last time. Oddly enough, I look more pregnant with my shirt covering my belly!
And with Samara: http://shawnandtashatompkins.blogspot.com/2008/11/16-weeks.html

I'm trying not to worry about it. I listened to the baby's heartbeat and it sounds normal so maybe working out, running after a toddler all day and not gaining much weight this time around is making me show less than last time...when I had a desk job and then came home and laid on the couch and ate all night!

Speaking of eating...cravings for the week were nachos with melted cheese dunked in salsa. And not any regular nacho chips...no, we're talking Doritos already loaded with fake powdered cheese. I'm also craving a multi layered chocolate cake with tons of icing between each layer and a milkshake. Oh, and ginger beef but I've been craving that for about 2 months so it kind of goes without saying!

Stay tuned, free giveaway coming up next week!

Mommy's Little Neat Freak

It's no secret that I'm a clean freak. Looks like it's rubbing off...

This morning, Samara took a face cloth and started washing the door and the floors.

15 weeks

If I were to have an ultrasound now, we would be able to tell if the baby is a girl or a boy. Except we're not finding out so I suppose it doesn't matter! I've started feeling the baby move a bit at night which is great. I didn't feel Samara until 22 weeks or something like that because the placenta was in the front and always blocking her moves.

I've been feeling a lot better and getting some energy back so I started working out this week. Nothing too crazy, 5 times a week, 30 minutes of light weight training and then walking and whatever I do with Samara is extra. So far I've gained 3 pounds.

I love to talk about food so each week now I'll let you know what I'm craving. Right now it's bruschetta. BIG TIME. I was reading in bed last night and someone had it and I couldn't sleep because I was thinking of how good it would be. I bought the ingredients when I went grocery shopping this morning and plan on eating it all weekend!

Finally!

As promised...pictures of our new home. It is nowhere near decorated how I'd like it but if I waited for that, I wouldn't post pictures until sometime in 2020 or so.

We have lots of plans and ideas how to make the house nicer/better but for the time being, with only one of us working, it stays how it is! Not that it's bad by any means, we love it! The basement is framed but unfinished and will eventually have a furnace room, laundry room, office/spare room, guest bathroom and workout room. We have to build a garage and a fence as well. We're not quite sure which is more work...having a 60 year old home with all the repairs that come with age or having a 3 year old home that isn't quite finished yet.
