The time has come. Some might think we've waited too long. Some might think we're rushing it. Either way, tonight's the night. Today we take the front rail of Sammy's crib to turn it into a toddler bed. I'm not going to lie. I'll probably cry. To think that my little girl doesn't need a crib anymore breaks my heart a bit. I'm also not going to lie about how terrified I am that this is going to ruin her sleep (and mine!). I have visions of her trying on every item of clothing in her dresser and closet, reading every book in her bookcase and playing with every toy in her toybox.
Any advice? How do you make them stay in their bed? How do you enforce bedtime when they're no longer in baby jail?
p.s. - I'm totally posting this so that I go through with it...unlike the other dozen or so times I've chickened out.

Just wait to see what she does before you ask for advice. Because she may do 1000 things and they all might require different pieces of advice. She may shock you and stay in her bed. Both of my girls never ever got out of their beds. It was like they weren't aware that they actually physically could. Both my boys got out of bed constantly. I just made sure they couldn't get out of their room and then I didn't care. But the girls? They just stayed in there. It was so weird. Anyway, good luck and keep us posted.
I'm not going to lie, this looming in our future terrifies me. I have no advice except I know you will figure it out brilliantly and then you must share on here so I stop having my own nightmares about this...you can di it!
Oops..." you can DO it." I stink at typing on the iPad!
I was so worried about this too, but Roo surprised me with how well she did. The only time she gets out of bed is about 10 minutes after we put her to bed and then sometimes 10 minutes later and 10 minutes later...etc. BUT she hasn't ever in the middle of the night. Or if she does she stays in her room and cleans up after herself.
Pray
Buy magical wand and wave it over her
Hope she does not go downstairs to make breakfast on her own
Wait and see. All three of mine stay in their beds, except when the girls first wake up and they go to the bathroom together, head back to their rooms, sit in their beds and scream for me. E will reach for a book during bedtime, which is right next to bed. I hope it goes smoothly.
No advice, just well wishes. Good luck!
Good luck! Sometimes kids do better with this transition than you'd expect. If things do get a little hairy...don't be afraid to use a gate in her doorway. My best advice for our 2nd oldest who we deemed "jack-in-the-box" because at first he got out of bed so many times...is to give them the littlest amount of attention possible. No eye contact...just put them back in bed and say "good night" in a sweet voice. Good luck!
