I admit it. We are huge sugar junkies. We've unfortunately instilled this in Samara as well. She has started eating less at supper in anticipation of dessert. Treats are no longer treats for us but something to be expected every day...sometimes more than once...more than twice a day.
So, it stops here. We kick the treats* today. For 21 days. Research loosely says that it takes 21 days to form a habit. Let's see, shall we? We'll keep you updated. Maybe you'd even like to join us!
*We're avoiding junk food. We're still having syrup on pancakes, brown sugar on oatmeal, sugar in coffee, etc...it's not a complete cut. It's the endless brownies, ice cream, chocolate, cookies and the like that we're hoping to avoid.

When my kids were really little they used to drive me nuts for treats. All day every day, "can I have a treat?"
Then one day I instituted 'junk food' day and it's been such a hit we still do it years later. They aren't allowed any sugar during the week but on Saturdays we go to the treat store (7-11 or Mac's) and they get to spend $2.50 on junk food.
It's been awesome. they stopped bugging for crap and they looked forward to Saturdays. Plus, it gave me leverage when I needed something I used the loss of junk food day as motivation.
They were still allowed brown sugar on their oatmeal and if we made homemade stuff they were allowed to have that. If their teachers gave them a treat they were allowed. I didn't want them to look like freaks but the point is they stopped bugging me for it.
Bill cosby s advice was to have dessert first so you do not have to worry if you will have room for it-
Seriously I agree with Catherine s approach
I should totally join you on this! I have a terrible sweet tooth.
I did 3 or 4 months without chocolate once, now it only takes me one chocolate bar to fill my cravings instead of 3 and I don't get cravings nearly as often. Good luck, it will be worth it in the end!
You are a brave women
We load the kids' plates up to help ensure they will eat more. Instead of dessert always being a sweet, we offer fruit instead.
i won't do it... i'm not a quitter! LOL.
now that i'm a vegetable junkie (thanks to the sea monkey) i hardly ever eat treats. i love making goodies but in all honesty i think fernando ends up eating the majority of the treats now. we'll see what happens once the baby's here though...
So are you saying that the box of USA laden high calorie chocolate covered everything goodies that I haul back on my annual sojurn will not be accepted?
While my husband has a huge sweet tooth, I'm not much on sweets. Although, I'd devour a good, moist brownie any day of the week.
