Are You Afraid?

Sammy went through a phase around Spring where she was afraid of random things...grass, lawnmowers, shrubs, etc. She quickly outgrew it and we haven't had any issues with "fear" since then.

Until now.

Now she's afraid of the dark. She refuses to go into a room if it's dark. She sleeps with a night light on but still races to our room crying whenever she wakes up. It's exhausting. I can handle the daytime fears but the ones that make me get up more than I did with a 1 month old are starting to burn me out. Any suggestions?

:( Did you try taking her back to her room and laying with her? What if you did the closet/under the bed/behind the door check before bedtime? To assure her there is nothing scary? I dunno.. first timer here :P

Nightlight? Take her to TRU and let her pick one with a character to help "protect" her in the night?

Fortunately that's one of the few fears that Maddy does not currently have. Her latest are Opa's model train, fake & real cobwebs, most Halloween decorations, and the blender.

Chicken is lately afraid of monsters in his room. Although I think it's a fake fear. He's never been a fan of the dark though and always needed a night light. SO, we bought him this:http://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Twilight-Constellation-Night-Turtle/dp/B000BNQC58
and then told him when he is sad or scared he can turn it on and snuggle the turtle. Mostly works but not all nights!

Also, I knew a girl who took an aerosol can of starch (like the kind you use on shirts when ironing) and made a fake label that said Monster Spray. Then she would spray it all over the room (you can see it coming out) and said it kept the monsters away. Totally worked for her daughter!

we have a super pretty pink and purple butterfly night light. Doesn't cast any scary shadows, and it's comforting I think. Would she go for a glow worm, or that "violet" dog thing that lights up and talks to her?

Who am I to suggest anything really, W gets up more than T still. Not because shes scared, but for water/pee/I can't sleep/I'm bored/where is my soother etc. Yawn.

What kind of nightlight do you have?

What about getting her a little music/night light that when she wakes up she could turn on to help calm her down?
