January Recipes

Breads and Buns
Olive Garden Breadsticks (4.5 stars out of 5)
I tried another version of this recipe last year and it wasn't close enough.  This one was.  Super super tasty.

Soups
Sweet Potato and Pear Soup (4 stars out of 5)
Delicious and simple to make.

Tuscan White Bean Soup (3 stars out of 5)
Okay.

Sides
Citrus Dressing (4 stars out of 5)
A nice, light dressing for salads.

Peanut Sauce (4.5 stars out of 5)
Simple and delicious.  I love the combo of lime and peanut butter, as strange as it sounds!  We used this on salad rolls.

Main Courses
Cashew Vegetable Korma (4.5 stars out of 5)
A fantastic vegetarian dish.  I halved it and it still made a lot.

Hearty Chicken Stew with Butternut Squash and Quinoa (5 stars out of 5)
I'm not a stew lover but this was amazing.

Melt in Your Mouth Chicken (5 stars out of 5)
I first had this at my mom and Bill's and it's been my favourite way to have chicken breasts ever since.  SO good.

Oven Roasted Orange Ginger Beef Stew (2 stars out of 5)
Blech.  The orange, I'll admit, seemed like a weird addition but I thought it could work.  It didn't.

Red Lentil Thai Chili (4 stars out of 5)
A really interesting take on chili.  I really liked it.  This made lots and freezes well.

Soba Noodles with Sweet Ginger Scallion Sauce (1.5 stars out of 5)
Gag.  Not good.  The sauce was okay (though too oily for my liking) but the noodles were slimy and the flavour unappealing.  No member of the family enjoyed this.

Desserts
Homemade Oreos (2 stars out of 5)
Darn.  I had high hopes about these.  The cookie part was pretty good but the icing was not.  It didn't taste anywhere near the original and all I could taste was the vegetable shortening (ick).  We actually threw the whole batch away, which, if you know us, know that it must have been pretty bad for us not to push through!
